There are two ways to go about writing a press release. You can write according to the templates you find (that's what most people do). Or you can write for results (that's what I do).
The bare minimum price for writing a press release is $300. I'll word and format the release for one medium. (If you want one for newspapers, it won't be appropriate for radio stations.) So if you want to send your press release to newspapers, radio stations, and online distribution services, there'll be a $100 charge to tweak the release and properly format it for each medium.
That price assumes that you already have a story and approach. If you want a press release, but have no idea what to write it about, I can offer a consultation to go with the writing service.

Distribution:
Now for the FULL PACKAGE. Consultation, writing the press release for all media, and actually distributing it to the appropriate places (includes 3 cities of your choice).
Please understand that I DON'T use an automated technique. While part of my sevice includes sending your press release to the online distribution service, I also go to each radio station and newspaper (and perhaps even radio personality) in the three cities of your choice. I find each medium's preferred method of receiving press releases, and send your press release in the appropriate form.
Some of this will be by mail, some by fax, some by email, and some by online contact forms. You won't find any copywriters offering this kind of service for the amazingly low price of $2000.
Additional city distributions will cost $300 per city.
